New York Jets could learn a thing or two about half time adjustments from the New England Patriots.
I watched last night's Patriots - Dolphins Monday night football game because as a Jet fan, nothing would please me more than to see the Pats lose and watch Brady on his rear! After the first half, it looked like I was going to get my wish. The Dolphin defense looked awesome. Brady had been knocked down on his rear a few times and the Pats could only muster two field goals.
Clearly, it looked like the Dolphins had the Pats number... well, until the beginning of the second half! It only took a few minutes to watch the Pats return the second half kickoff for seven and later, block a punt and score another seven! Before the Dolphins knew it, they were down, 20 – 7 and it didn't get much better after that as they were blown out 41-14!
So, what can the Jets learn from this game, well, as much as it hurts to admit it, we watched one of the best coaches in football make half time adjustments to his offense, defense, and special teams that turned the game around and made it a blowout!
Belichick has a knack for finding out what a team does in the first half and adjustmenting for the second half. Imagine how hard that is! He has 15 – 20 minutes to determine what they are doing in all three phases of the game, make the adjustments, and share them with the coaches and players. Add to this the constant churn of coaches and players since Belichick became head coach of the Pats, and it makes what he does even more impressive! Last night was a perect example.
I hope Rex and Shotty are studying the master of half time adjustments and incorporating his success into the Jets plans. If they had made the proper adjustments during the second half of the Ravens game, the Jets would be 4-0 today and we would be feeling a lot better about their chances for a SuperBowl!
