Southeast Raleigh football quarterback Gabe Henderson is generating some Atlantic Coast Conference recruiting attention.
Henderson (5 feet 11, 185 pounds) attended the Virginia Tech junior day this weekend, and the Hokies have shown interest. In fact, he may be Virginia Tech's top quarterback prospect.
Henderson helped Southeast to an 11-3 record in 2008, passing for 2,101 yards and rushing for 422.
He already holds an offer from Kent State.
WF-R COMMITMENTS: Four players from Wake Forest-Rolesville's Cap Seven Conference championship football team have announced their plans for next season.
Defensive end Jacob Kahut (6-5, 220) signed with Campbell. Defensive end Keaton Epps (6-3, 230) accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Brigham Young and center Taylor Hansen (6-4, 300) is taking a preferred walk-on offer from North Carolina.
Linebacker Terrell Hartsfield (6-4, 215) is listed as one of the top juniors in the state, but he will play at Chatham (Va.) Hargrove Military next fall.
The Wake Forest defense allowed 11.4 points per game during a 12-3 season.
SIDNEY PICKS TROJANS: Renardo Sidney, a 6-9, 260-pound basketball forward from Los Angeles, announced for Southern California last week.
Sidney is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the Class of 2009, by recruiting analyst Dave Telep.
The only three players among Telep's top 10 who have not committed are Word of God point guard John Wall (No. 2), Mobile (Ala.) LeFlore forward DeMarcus Cousins (No. 6), and Brooklyn Lincoln guard Lance Stephenson (No. 7).
All three have Memphis listed among their top schools. Wall and Cousins have N.C. State on their lists.
MIAMI LANDS UNDERCLASSMEN: Miami picked up basketball commitments from a freshman and a sophomore last week, according to Scout.com.
Ismaila Dauda of Miami Center of Life Academy, a native of Nigeria, is a 6-10 freshman. He averaged 10 points and five rebounds.
Yvan Ngirabakunzi, a 6-9 sophomore at Piney Woods, Miss., also picked the Hurricanes.
Ngirabakunzi averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds.
FALCON TO WISCONSIN: Patrick Moakley, who won the Tri-Eight 400 meters last year for Green Hope and qualified for the state championships, has signed to run track for Wisconsin.
RICHMOND FINISHES SECOND: Akeem Richmond, who is unsigned, completed his high school basketball career Wednesday night in Southern Lee's 73-64 loss to Greensboro Dudley.
Richmond scored 26 points in the game, including 22 in the second half. Dudley standout P.J. Hairston scored 25, including 17 in the fourth quarter when the Panthers erased a 52-45 deficit.
Richmond finished with 2,846 points for his career.
JamesOn Curry of Eastern Alamance has the state record with 3,307 points, but Richmond moved past Lawrence "Cotton" Clayton of Kittrell Zeb Vance (2,758 points) into second place.
JORDAN PLAYERS SIGN: Durham Jordan defensive backs Jabriel Lowery (6-0, 192) and Demetrius Leach (6-0, 167) committed to the Chowan football program last week.
