New York Jets Will Not Host New York Giants Week 1, Will Host Dallas Cowboys Instead
Well, so much for my sources. Yesterday I reported that the NFL was leaning towards scheduling an all-New York matchup on Week 1 of the season, on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorists attacks.
Today, I’ve found out that those reports were false. Instead, the New York Jets will host the Dallas Cowboys on September 11, 2011 on Sunday Night Football, in a battle of the Ryan twins, Jets head coach Rex Ryan versus new Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.
Instead of honoring the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with an all-New York matchup, the NFL has reportedly decided according to Manish Mehta of the Daily News to honor both sites of the terrorist attacks instead. The Jets will host Dallas, and the New York Giants will play in Washington against the Redskins.
The Jets/Giants matchup will instead be on Christmas Eve, according to Mehta, with the Jets as the home team.
